Drama and Art projects planning begins
Jun 15 2007With the arrival of new volunteers brimming with ideas and enthusiasm for our planned drama and art projects, planning has begun in earnest. Both projects will be targeting those children in community who just want to "have a go", as well as providing a pathway for those young people with talent so they have the opportunity to see where that talent can take them.
MYI will be working closely with various creative organisations operating in Nairobi who have experience with youth and community arts projects. Coordinated by two of our Thika youths, the projects will draw on this experience and outline an implementation plan suitable for the Thika community. Working closely with the schools as well as the various street children organisations to ensure we reach as many children as possible, the programs will provide both opportunity for creative expression amongst the young that simply does not exist at the moment, as well as serving as highly effective vehicles for conveying HIV/AIDs and other relevant Life Skills messages.
Our longer term aim is to help to develop a thriving arts environment within the Thika district, as both an avenue for young, creative and talented artists to fulfil their natural talents, and a forum for effective communication of important community messages. All of this organised and managed by the youth of Thika.
